When used effectively, technology can be used to connect and share with a wider network to enhance the learning experience. Our goal with technology is to support our learning and communicate with parents, other teachers, and other students worldwide. Technology will be used daily in our classroom and it will be used safely. We will explore the notion of "digital citizenship" and continually engage in discussions regarding the safe and responsible use of technology. Listed below are various technology tools that we will learn about and use together. Students will be responsible for keeping usernames and passwords organized in their agendas. READ CAREFULLY It is extremely important that we use technology safely. As your child’s teacher, I feel it is very important that you are aware of our online presence. As the teacher I will:
Class Webpage - Our class website will have useful links, important dates, updates, and will be the main site for all of our communication. It will also house pictures and short videos of our class in action! Twitter - Twitter is a great tool for sharing and learning with classmates, parents, and other classrooms all over the world! Please view our class Twitter page regularly to see what we are working on in class. Our Twitter handle is ______________ Elementary Student Portal - https://sites.google.com/a/ocsbstudent.ca/k-6/ This portal has all the links you will need! Remind - This app allows teachers to send you text messages, or e-mails, to your smart phone. Things like “don’t forget it is library day tomorrow” and spirit day reminders will be texted to your phone. Feel free to sign up using the directions attached. Our goal is to increase reminders for upcoming due dates and special activities at school. You can also text message me using this app in lieu of using the agenda. Parents tend to like using this option to set up a meeting with the teacher, or to notify the teacher if a student has an appointment or will be absent from school. Any concerns regarding a student's behaviour or academic progress should never be addressed using this form of communication. Please call your child's teacher at the school. YouTube - Through their g-mail accounts, students have access to a YouTube channel. Sometimes, students will use YouTube to create videos for class projects. Students will be asked to ensure that all YouTube videos are set to “unlisted” so that they can only be viewed by people who have the link. That means the video will NOT turn up in a search. Students should keep “restricted mode” enabled on YouTube. Restricted mode hides videos that may contain inappropriate content. No filter is 100% accurate, but it should help avoid most content. Please supervise your child when they access YouTube. Educational Apps and Learning Tools CLICK HERE to see a list of AWESOME Educational Apps, organized by subject! |
